Bartie's Boutique

A brilliant new art market has just opened in Worthing called Bartie's Boutique.  It runs on the second Saturday of each month, the next one being November 5th.

I managed to get a stand for Saturday December 10th, and can't wait to take part, particularly as the organisers will be getting in the Christmas spirit with jazz singers, mulled wine and mince pies.  I'll be set up there as Anna's Drawing Room, selling original drawings, prints and cards.

Hope to see you there!

New birdy card design

This one is inspired by my daughter's polka dot wrapping paper.  I love this yellow pattern from backgroundlabs.com.

Countdown, 2 days!

Before I begin an evening of mounting and compiling, here are a few images of some of the work going up at Lulu and Hitch in Hove, Lily and Harold in Shoreham and Pizza Express Hove from Monday.

So ... the main pieces of the show are: a blue-grey Pine print, a yellow Bullfinch print and a green Owl print.   Graeme Locke at Eye 4 Colour Prints did a great job getting the best quality out of my drawings, translating them into beautiful giclee prints on German etching paper, all available in a limited edition of 50 in either a3 or a4.

Now for some unashamedly girly birdy-bug cards I'm making to be sold in the two shops...

Now back to work ... can't wait to get it all hung on Sunday!

Visit to Lily & Harold

This May, I am looking forward to being 'artist of the month' at Lulu & Hitch in Hove and Lily & Harold in Shoreham-by-Sea.  I have enjoyed pottering around the Hove shop a few times already, chatting to the friendly staff, buying cards and admiring the wooden children's toys and vintage furniture.  Masters of the shabby chic, Louise and her team present restored antiques, hand-made jewellery, giftware, greetings cards and now a monthly changing exhibition of work by local artists.

Today I paid a visit to the pretty sun-soaked shop in Shoreham.  Here are some photos of things that caught my eye.

Layers and snippets

Since starting my evening course in illustration, It's been great not worrying about making work to sell, and instead doing some experimenting.  Here are a couple of pictures made with snippets of old newspapers, maps, drawing, cut, coloured and stuck bits.

Newish year, fresh birdy start

One of us Magpies has enjoyed a new beginning on a new inspirational course in 2011.  I joined an illustration course for artists at The Phoenix in Brighton, which has been a great start to opening up and not caring what work I make, or why I make it.  I'm enjoying playing with new media, cutting and collaging, photocopying, scanning, drawing and painting.  Here are a few drawings of birds, just for the sake of it.

And how great do these Peonies look, just photocopied from a book and hand-coloured, cut and scanned?  These will hopefully be used in a lovely layered image somewhere soon!
